How to add a video to your website
Step 1: Access your admin panel located at yourdomain.com/admin. Log in using your username and password.
Step 2: In a new window, find the video you'd like to add to your site. In this example we'll be adding the "Evolution of Dance" video from YouTube. Right click on the thumbnail of the video and select "Save Picture As..."
Step 3: Enter a name for your thumbnail and save it to a folder on your compute by pressing save.
Step 4: Click on the video thumbnail like you normally would to watch the video. Find the embed code for the video, highlight it, right-click, and select copy.
Step 5: Back in the original window with your control panel, click on "Post Video." You can also see various site statistics on this page.
Step 6: On the "Post Video" page, fill out the video form.
- Enter a title for the video and the "URL Title" will automatically be created. The URL title is a search engine friendly URL for your video.
- Enter a description for the video that will be shown on the home page, video page, and search pages. Optionally, you can enter an extended description that will only be shown on the video page.
- Right click in the "Video Embed Code" box and select "Paste." The embed code you copied in step 4 should appear.
- You have the option of adding tags to your videos to help relate them to other videos. Enter as many tags as you wish in the tags box, separated by commas.
- At the top of the form, click on the "Upload Thumbnail" button / link.
Step 7: A small file upload window should open. Click "browse."
Step 8: Select the file you saved in step 3, then click "open."
Step 9: Click "upload" and wait for the image to upload. During this step your thumbnail is also automatically resized to the proper dimensions. If you're on a high-speed internet connection this should take less than 2 seconds.
Step 10: If the image upload is successful you should see a "File Uploaded" message. Click the "Place Image and Close Window" button.
Step 11: The filename of the image you just uploaded will automatically appear in the "Thumbnail Filename" box. If you ever enter this file name manually make sure to only enter a file name (example-low.jpg) and not a full URL (http://www.yourdomain.com/example-low.jpg).
Step 12: Click on the Categories tab and select a category from the list. To select multiple categories, hold the Control (CTR) key while selecting categories. To edit your existing categories or add new categories click on the "Edit Categories" link.
Step 13: A small category management window should open.
- To create a new category, click on the green "Create a New Category" button.
- To edit an existing category, click the "Edit" link to the right of it.
- To delete an existing category, click the "Delete" link to the right of it.
- To reorder your categories, click on the up and down arrows to the left of them.
- When you're finished, click the "Close Window and Update Categories" button.
Step 14: Click the "Submit" button to publish your video.
Step 15: If there's a problem with your video form a red error message will indicate what needs to be corrected. If your video is published successfully you will see a green "New Video Submitted" message.
That's it! This entire process should take less than a minute to complete. It actually takes longer to read the instructions and look at the pictures than it does to do it yourself!
